Bounce + Swing

Bounce and Swing are two large-scale sculptural installations located at the first- and third-base entrances of Surprise Stadium, a spring training facility in Surprise, Arizona. Inspired by the movement of baseball itself, each sculpture captures a defining moment in the game.

Bounce traces the imagined trajectory of a home run, forming a perforated metal shade canopy patterned with cotton, a reference to the region’s agricultural past. Swing is composed of 236 custom baseball bats arranged in an elegant arc that echoes the swing of the bat and the stitching of a baseball.

Together, the works celebrate the joy and shared ritual of America’s pastime.
